INTERVIEW
Miranda Lichtenstein, Untitled #9
Chapter 2: Coming to Terms
with Place

"I'm interested in the way [that] so many suburban or exurban environments function as a getaway. The landscaping [makes it] particularly pastoral and almost painterly. But [the terrain] has also been so [managed] and so shaped that it has a kind of fantasy quality to it, for me, because it functions as this escape from city life, but then it's incredibly manicured and there's nothing really natural about it."
-Photographer Miranda Lichtenstein
