How to Use Your Word Processor

Opening an Existing File

Opening an existing file is typically accomplished through menu or toolbar commands. In Microsoft Word, use either of the following techniques:

Menu Commands: Use the FILE > OPEN menu command. The Open dialog box will open, allowing you locate and open a file. You can choose a file from the current folder, double-click on folders to view their contents, or use the Look In drop-down menu to locate files in other drives or folders.

The Toolbar: Use the Open icon on the toolbar to create a file. Clicking on the icon will cause the Open File box to appear.
