How to Use Your Word Processor

Creating Bulleted and Numbered Lists

You can easily create bulleted and numbered lists in most word-processing programs. Microsoft Word, for instance, allows you to create bulleted and numbered lists in several ways:

Menu Commands: Select the text that you want to convert to a bulleted or numbered list, place your cursor in a paragraph that you want to bullet or number, or place your cursor on a line that you want to use as the start of a new list, then use the FORMAT > BULLETS AND NUMBERING menu command.

Use the FORMAT > BULLETS AND NUMBERING Menu Command to Create Bulleted or Numbered Lists

The Toolbar: Use the toolbar to convert text to a bulleted or numbered list or to start a new list. Click on a toolbar icon (see right) to create a bulleted or numbered list. (If all of these icons do not appear on your toolbar, you can add them using the TOOLS > CUSTOMIZE command from the main menu.)

List Icons

Drag and DropContext Menus: Use the context menu (also known as the right mouse or command menu) to open the Bullets and Numbering dialog box.

Use Keyboard Shortcuts: Type a number or an asterisk at the beginning of a new line. When you start a new line (by pressing the ENTER key), Word will convert the line to the start of a bulleted or numbered list.
