How to Use Your Word Processor

Creating Headers, Footers, and Page Numbers

Headers and footers provide information about a document, such as page numbers, the document's title, and the name of the writer at the top or bottom of a page. In Microsoft Word, you can open the Header and Footer toolbar with the VIEW > HEADER AND FOOTER menu command. The Header and Footer toolbar allows you to switch between headers (at the top of the page) and footers (at the bottom of the page). It allows you to insert page numbers, dates, and time. Among other options, it also allows you to control the location of the header or footer. The toolbar is shown below with the mouse hovering over the Insert Page Number button.
