How to Use Your Word Processor

Formatting Fonts

Using your word processor or desktop publishing program, you can format fonts using menu commands, toolbar icons, and keyboard commands. In Microsoft Word, use one of the following techniques:

Menu Commands: Choose the FORMAT > FONTS command from the main menu. You can also select the FONT command from the context menu, which can be activated by right-clicking (in Windows) or command-clicking (on the Macintosh).

Font Dialog

Toolbar IconsThe Toolbar: Use the toolbar to format fonts by clicking on icons in the formatting toolbar. (If all of these icons do not appear on your toolbar, you can add them using the TOOLS > CUSTOMIZE command from the main menu.)

Keyboard Commands: The most common keyboard commands are CTRL-b (bold), CTRL-i (italics) and CTRL-u (underscore). To use these commands, hold down the control key (CTRL) while you press the b, i, or u key. (On the Macintosh, use the command key.)
