How to Use Your Word Processor

Formatting Columns

Using your word processor or desktop publishing program, you can format columns using menu commands and toolbars. In Microsoft Word, use one of the following techniques:

Menu Commands: Choose the FORMAT > COLUMNS command from the main menu. You can specify the number of columns, their width, and the spacing between them. You can apply your column settings to the entire document, text you have selected, or everything following your current location in the document.

Columns Dialog Box

Formatting Columns Using the ToolbarThe Toolbar: You can use the toolbar to format columns by clicking on the Columns icon and dragging the mouse across the drop-down box to choose the number of columns you want. If you have not selected any text, the formatting will be applied to the entire document.
