How to Use Your Word Processor

Creating and Formatting Charts and Graphs

Using many word processors and desktop publishing programs, you can create and format charts and graphs using menu commands. To create and format a graph or chart in Microsoft Word, follow these steps:

  1. Place your cursor at the point where you want to insert a table.
  2. Choose the INSERT > PICTURE > CHART command from the main menu. The menus in Microsoft Word will change, indicating that you are now in the program’s Chart module.
  3. Select the type of graph or chart you want to display by clicking on the CHART > CHART TYPE menu command.
  4. Enter your data into the spreadsheet cells.
  5. Click on the FILE > UPDATE menu command to insert the chart into your document.
