How to Search the Web

Phrase Searches

Phrase searches involve typing two or more words in a search field. Often, the online catalog, database, or Web search site you are using will require you to place quotation marks (" ") at the beginning and end of a phrase. If you were looking for information on the impact of Hurricane Katrina on the U.S. economy in 2005, for example, you might use the phrase "hurricane katrina" in your search. Phrases can also be used in other sorts of searches, such as Boolean searches.
