Meet the Authors


Andrew Harnack

(and his daughter, Chelsea)

Andy, Foundation Professor of English at Eastern Kentucky University, teaches Honors Rhetoric, Composition I and II, Advanced Composition Online, World Literatures, Composition Theory, and graduate courses in the history of rhetoric. For ten years he was the director of composition at EKU. He holds graduate degrees from Oklahoma State University, Concordia Seminary, and the University of Southwestern Louisiana. He has published essays in print journals on Renaissance authors, published online essays on documentation practice and effective MOOing, edited books on adoption and animal rights, and taught in numerous Elder hostels. Currently he is on loan from the Department of English to his university's Office of Extended Programs, where he works as the coordinator of Internet course development and a leader in falculty development workshops for online instructors. Andy spends his summers in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, where he responds—as always!—to email queries sent to him by Online! readers.

Eugene Kleppinger



Gene grew up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.  At Houghton College (NY) he majored in chemistry and minored in math, German, and philosophy. His three graduate degrees—M. Div. ( Asbury Theological Seminary, 1979), and M.A. and Ph.D. (University of Kentucky, 1983, 1992)—represent longstanding interests in philosophy, theology, science, and languages. He has taught chemistry, philosophy, rhetoric, and civilization, and currently works as a software consultant for Eastern Kentucky University's Academic Computing and Telecommunications Services, helping campus users solve software problems and teaching many computer-related workshops and classes. Besides working with computers, he enjoys singing with church and community choruses, ringing handbells, and having fun with his wife and two sons.
