How to Search the Web

Conducting an Advanced Search

Advanced searches are available on most Web search sites, typically by clicking on a link or button that takes you to an advanced search page. Advanced searches typically allow you to do complex Boolean searches or to limit your searches by date, type of document, Web domain (such as only pages on www.bedfordstmartins.com), or language.

You can find a list of Web search sites in the Bedford Research Room's Links pages.

In this demonstration, you'll view an advanced search on Ask Jeeves. To begin this demonstration, click on the Continue button.
